Piano recital a natural to begin fine-arts series
By David Patrick Stearns, Inquirer Music Critic

The full-house audience knew what it was hearing, and the demographics were fairly close to, say, an Astral Artists event, though with more same-sex couples, as one might expect at Philadelphia's lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community center...

Petite Ching-Yun Hu is already a remarkable pianist. She’s also young, by the way. In Tchaikovsky’s fearsome Piano Concerto No 1 in B flat minor, Op 23 she demonstrated brilliantly and with great feeling for musical line that this concerto also has delectable inner voices which are all too often overlooked...

PLAYING TO THE HORDE; CHING-YUN HU AT THE MUSEUM
March 26, 2010
Original link
Nothing has left me so heartened as the sight in the past few weeks of thousands of ordinary people queuing in the cold and rain to see a few bits of dirty old gold.
Few of them, myself included, would have answered positively to the question; "Of course, you're interested in ancient history, aren't you?" None, I suspect, if asked a direct question, would have been willing to give their own hard-earned cash to support Stoke on Trent museum...

Wigmore Hall review, Musical Opinion
March-April, 2009
Rubinstein Piano Competition Winners
"Ching-Yun Hu displayed the maturity to infuse El Amor y la Muerte, from the Goyescas by Granados, with a profound depth of emotion in a beautifully-shaped, expansive perfromance. She followed it with Chopin's relatively unfamiliar E-flat Rondo, Op. 16, negotiating its fast-flowing passages with cool control, elegance and ease. To conclude, she offered a highly accomplished account of Rachmaninov's Second Sonata in B-flat minor, Op. 36, the dramatic opening of the Allegro agitato compelling attention, while the concluding Allegro molto was the ideal showcase for Hu's virtuosity as sh propelled the movement to an emphatic climax."
